Virginia Higher Education Advocacy Day (VHEAD) 2023
Dear Colleagues,
The Virginia Conference of the American Association of University Professors, The Virginia Commonwealth University Faculty Senate, and The Faculty Senate of Virginia, invite you to join us on Thursday, January 12, 2023, for the annual Virginia Higher Education Advocacy Day at the Pocahontas Building (900 East Main Street, Richmond, Virginia, 23219). We will once again visit the offices of our state legislators to advocate for our interests and the interests of higher education in the Commonwealth.
You are welcome to bring a student (or several students!) to join us. Legislators always enjoy meeting with our students. Position papers containing key “advocacy issues” will be handed out to faculty. You may share these materials with legislators and/or legislative aides as you visit their offices.
We will as always be active in support of legislation that aims to improve higher education, and oppose legislation that would reduce the quality of higher education and/or erode faculty status and working conditions.
Agenda: We will meet at 9am in Room 305, One Capitol Square Blg. Please take a look at the VHEAD 2023 Agenda. Any future updates/changes to the schedule will be posted on this document.
Registration: A light breakfast and lunch will be provided to participants (all free of charge). Please help us to plan accordingly by registering at: VHEAD 2023 – Registration Form
Travel Grants: The Faculty Senate of Virginia (FSVA) will provide limited travel grants for faculty and/or students who will be attending VHEAD on January 12, 2023, but are not receiving travel support from their school. The travel grants will cover part or all of mileage and parking. Please complete the following Travel Grant Form by January 10, 2023 if you are in need of travel assistance. Final funding decisions are made by the FSVA President and Treasurer.
